About
Who maintains Right to Rent Log
Right to Rent Log is an independent website and software service. It is not affiliated with GOV.UK or the Home Office.
Maruf
Product engineer and founder of builtbymaruf, where I build and run a small set of live web products. I designed, built and maintain Right to Rent Log: the guides, the follow-up date calculator and the process log.
What I'm not: I'm not a solicitor or a regulated immigration adviser, and this site doesn't give legal advice. That's why every rule here links to the official source it comes from.

Why it exists
The follow-up rule ("the later of the permission end date or 12 months after the check") is easy to get wrong, and landlords need a clear record of what they did and when. The free tools do that in a couple of minutes, in the browser, without uploading anything.
How our information is maintained
- Official sources only. Rules are taken from the Home Office Landlords' guide (1 October 2026), the Code of Practice and GOV.UK. They're listed on our sources page.
- Every rule has a version. For example
rtr.tl.v2is the time-limited follow-up rule. The calculator and process log show which rule version produced each date. - Every guide shows who wrote it and when it was last reviewed. The review date only changes when the page is actually re-checked against its sources.
- Changes are recorded. When official guidance changes, or we change how a tool applies it, it goes on the change history.
- Regular review. Sources are re-checked at least every three months, and straight away when the Home Office publishes new guidance. Last full review: 3 October 2026.
What the site does not do
- It doesn't verify identity documents or decide anyone's immigration status.
- It doesn't store your tenants' details: the free log runs in your browser.
- It doesn't cover Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
